Ravindra Jadeja fined $300 for clicking selfies with lions
AHMEDABAD: Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja has been fined $300 for clicking selfies with imperiled Asiatic lions in the nation's west regardless of a restriction on such photographs, a senior backwoods official said on Wednesday.
Authorities had requested an examination in June after photographs of Jadeja posturing before a pride of lions amid a safari in Gir woodland turned into a web sensation on online networking.
"We had established a test and called Jadeja for an announcement," A.P. Singh, boss woodland conservator in Gujarat state, told AFP.
"Yet, since he was not accessible, his dad in-law Hardevsinh Solanki gave a composed articulation for his benefit and paid the fine of 20,000 rupees ($300)," he said.
In one of the photographs on Instagram, the all-rounder is seen grinning and indicating at a pride of huge felines resting behind him with an inscription "family photograph, having great time in Sasan (Gir)".
Another is a selfie of Jadeja and his significant other as a lion looks on out of sight.
The 27-year-old is as of now on visit with the Indian group in the West Indies.
The photographs were taken days after the Gujarat ranger service office prompted travelers and local people against bringing selfies with lions, taking after a spate of assaults in which villagers were killed or harmed by the felines.
Gir natural life haven is a famous enormous feline safari destination and the main spot where Asiatic lions stay in nature.
Asiatic lions, somewhat littler than their African cousins and with a fold of skin along their midsections, have been expanding in numbers in Gir, with 523 recorded in the most recent statistics.
